A Short Trip to Melbourne

It surprises most people that despite having lived in Australia all my life, I've never ventured much out of Sydney. With domestic airfares being dirt cheap most of the year nowadays, it was about time that I started exploring other states, starting with Melbourne.

Because the trip was a sudden decision and we had bigger plans for another holiday further down the track, we tried to keep costs to a minimum and there wasn't much of a planning, with last minute searches on Urbanspoon to decide our dining destinations for the day. Nevertheless, much fun was to be had in this exciting city!

Chocolate Brownies

I don't bake brownies often, since I'm not a huge fan, and on the odd occasion that I do, I'm one of those rare strange people who prefer to make them cakey more than fudgy since that's the preference of everyone in the family. On this occasion though, I managed to convince myself to attempt the fudgy version after seeing picture after picture of rich, gooey chocolatey brownies all over blogs and pinterest with beautiful cracked tops (they are rather photogenic!).

Strawberry Ice Cream

First week back at uni is never fun, starting from the waking up 5 hours earlier than normal to getting into bed at night and realising that you've barely done anything you've enjoyed the whole day. Working 9-5 hours 5 days a week this semester, I've been unexpectedly plunged into adult working life, and I've gotta say- it's not fun!

With the current hot weather, I decided to take out the ice cream machine to make some ice cream the weekend before uni started. Billions of flavour ideas went through my head, but I ended up sticking with strawberry as they're not always in season. As I'd made it before, I stuck to my old recipe with a little bit of tweaking but alas, the ice cream machine died on me some 20 minutes into churning.
